But let’s imagine for a moment that Fiat actually sells Maserati.
I think Ford should take over the brand, because let’s be honest, Lincoln will never become a true luxury player, globally or even nationally. With the money it gets from Ford, Fiat could transform Alfa into a powerhouse, bringing it on the same level of success as BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and Audi.

Because they might keep them solvent long enough for another investor to come along and buy them, thereby making them great again? Like Ford did with Jag and Aston Martin?

NO.
Lincoln is in the state it’s in because Ford wasted money and resources on other brands. They don’t need to make that mistake again.

Ford did more than “keep them solvent.” Jaguar especially made enormous improvements in quality after Ford took over. Jag was coasting on wood & leather, a heart-warming story, and a stuffy accent to try to offset the fact that their cars were archaic junk. the only real mis-step Jag had as part of PAG was the X-type, and that because of its pedestrian roots.
